The Open Squad’s efforts to join the nation’s elite
failed after a gallant effort in the National Clubs League entry
tournament at Kettering. Seven sides nominated by their netball
regions featured in the competition, with the top three earning
places in Division 7 of the N.C.L. for next season. The N.C.L.
is England’s premier competition for Netball Clubs, featuring
the top 56 sides from all over the country.
After a tense and thrilling day’s play Telstars finished
fifth, promotion ultimately hinged on two closely fought matches.
The team got off to a terrible start, losing the first three
matches before rallying to win two of their last three. The narrow
11-10 defeat to eventual winners Evesham, and the 15-13 loss
against Pinehurst led to the team missing out this time.
Evesham topped the table, on goal difference from Gateshead
Stadium, with Falcons Yellow in third, Pinehurst fourth, Telstars
fifth, Tegate sixth and Bath seventh.
